As of the 26th August, I’m now a month into cycling from Maastricht to Malta. I’ve crossed 5 of 6 borders and covered 1200 of 2837 km. I’ve come a long way, and a lot has happened already.
I’ve found a cycling buddy, gone solo again, surfed a whole lot of couches, and camped everywhere from forests to vineyards. While not on the bike, I’ve ended up working at a scout centre for a few days, and hiking around and sightseeing all over the place. I’ve gone from the hilly Ardennes to the totally flat eastern France, to make my way up to 2470m on the Great St. Bernard Pass a few days later. I’ve met countless truly amazing people, without whom the whole experience wouldn’t have been the same.
Yet there’s also a long way left to go, and a lot left to come. I’m still less than half way home distance-wise, and have pushed back my estimated arrival date to early-mid October.
I’ll keep blogging and posting photos as I go. Besides that, there are now a few more ways to keep in touch and stay up to date with the latest by subscribing to the mailing list and following on facebook/twitter/instagram/strava!
In case you’ve missed them, social media links, a subscribe form and RSS links are located in the left-hand sidebar. You need to click the black menu symbol in the top-left of your browser window for it to appear.
As always, feel free to get in touch either directly or by leaving comments below, and don’t forget to leave a donation in aid of Homebound’s beneficiaries :)

A lot will be happening in the next few days. I’ve prepared a series of catch-up blog posts, and will be publishing one every other evening to bring you up to date.
Meanwhile, I’ll be taking a short break from cycling. As of last night, I’ve been joined by Elodie whom I’d met in Nancy and Nina, a friend of hers. We’ll be heading towards La Spezia soon for a few days of hiking around Cinque Terre. Going to be great!
Internet access will be limited, but as much as possible I’ll continue to post the daily photo. Meanwhile the blog posts will be published one at a time, so keep checking back for more :)
